Seven days, 8am–7pm

A single oven in Catford is £77 and a double is £110. Racks, trays, side runners, pan supports and the fan cover come out and travel to a heated tank in the van, which does the soaking while the cavity, the seals and the inner faces of the door glass are worked by hand at your worktop. No caustic product stays behind in your kitchen and nothing is left sitting there to burn off later, so the cooker will do your dinner the same evening.

Appliance Price
Single oven £77
Double oven £110
Single wide oven £114
Range cooker, 90cm £143
AGA, two oven £143
Hob £23
Extractor £28

Each appliance carries one figure. An oven with a grill box above it is still a single. A hob at £23 or an extractor at £28 booked on its own runs into the £67 one off minimum, so those two are usually added to something else. An oven clears the minimum by itself.

Planning the van and the route

The tank is heated and runs off the vehicle, so the van stays put for the two hours of the job. Tell us the road and the house number when you book rather than the postcode alone, and the day is planned before we arrive. The A205 through the town centre is due to be realigned and the Plassy Island one-way system taken out, work TfL already has permission for and which is expected to occupy something like two years from 2026. The approach to a given street therefore keeps changing. We look at the layout as it stands the day before rather than driving from memory.

The racks come back through the house

Most of the terraces here have a side return at the back and no gate onto the street, so everything that goes out to the van returns the way it went, down the hall and past whatever is in it. Parts travel in a covered tray. Where the kitchen sits at the back of a Corbett house with the staircase coming off the front door, that run is the full depth of the property and it is the walking that adds the time rather than the cleaning. In the flats above the shops the run is a straight staircase with nowhere to set anything down, so the parts go up and down in loads. None of it costs you anything. It just means the slot is longer than the job sounds.

What comes off

Baked carbon comes off, including the layer welded to the roof of the cavity that nobody can reach with a cloth. So does the grease film around the door and the spilt sugar that has turned to glass on the cavity floor. Most of the visible dirt on a door actually lives between the panes, and on the majority of models the door splits and goes back the way the manufacturer intended.

Hobs and extractors, priced on their own

A hob strip at £23 means the caps, crowns and pan supports come off and go into the tank with the racks, and the surface underneath gets worked by hand. An extractor at £28 means the filters out and degreased and the housing done. The extractor matters most in a small flat kitchen where the hood recirculates rather than ducting outside, which describes a great many of the flats over the shops in the town centre. In those the grease spreads across the ceiling and the wall units instead of collecting neatly in a filter. Mention it when you ring, because now and then the honest verdict is that the hood is the real job and the oven is the easy half of it.

Ranges and AGAs

A 90cm range and a two oven AGA are both £143. Neither turns up much in a flat conversion, and both are common in the roomier Edwardian houses around the Culverley Green conservation area and in the villas west of here. An AGA cannot be touched until it is completely cold, which means turning it off the evening beforehand, so that booking always goes in at least a day ahead. Anything wider than 90cm, or a twin cavity range with a griddle plate in the middle, gets a look before a figure, because the work is not comparable and guessing over the phone would only mean changing the number at your kitchen door.

Two things to skip before we arrive

Running the pyrolytic cycle the day before. It bakes loose soil into a grey ash that welds itself to the enamel and makes the job harder rather than easier. And heating the oven up on the morning, for any reason: we cannot put hands into a warm cavity and the wait comes out of your slot. Leave it cold and leave it alone. Say at the booking if the liners are catalytic or self-cleaning, because those are hand work with something gentler and they never see the tank.

Timing, and nothing is too far gone

Reckon on two hours for a single left standing a year, nearer three for a double, and a full morning where a range comes with a hob and an extractor beside it. People apologise for the state of their cookers on the doorstep most weeks and there is no need. A landlord oven that has gone half a decade without a cloth finishes up looking the same as one wiped every month. It takes an hour longer. The figure does not move.

Who books one

Outgoing tenants and landlords, mostly, which is why the cooker is the commonest thing added to a move-out clean. After that it is households who already have a weekly cleaner and have worked out that three hours a week never quite reaches inside the oven. December is the busiest month of the year by a distance. We do a lot of them out on the interwar estate at Downham, where the kitchens are at the back with a door straight out to the garden, and in the flats above the shops along Rushey Green. The list price is the same wherever you are: every figure sits on the prices page. Ring 020 3129 2846 between 8am and 7pm, any day.

Questions we get asked

How much is oven cleaning in Catford?

£77 for a single, £110 for a double, and £143 for a 90cm range or a two oven AGA. A hob stripped down is £23 and an extractor with the filters out is £28. Anything wider than 90cm gets a look before a figure.

Can I use the oven the same day?

Yes, the same evening. The strong solution never leaves the tank on the van, and the cavity is treated with a gel that is rinsed away before we go, so nothing is left to fume and there is no burning-off cycle to sit through.

How long does it take?

Two hours or so for a single left a year, and about three for a double. Where a range comes with a hob and an extractor beside it, allow a morning. How long since the last proper clean matters far more than the make of the appliance.

Do you clean ovens in the flats above the shops?

Yes, often along Rushey Green. The parts go up and down the staircase in covered loads, and the recirculating hoods in those kitchens are well worth adding at £28.

Will you clean the hob and the extractor as well?

Yes, both priced on their own. A full hob strip with the caps and pan supports into the tank is £23, and an extractor with the filters out and the housing degreased is £28. A recirculating hood in a small flat kitchen is the one that surprises people, so mention it when you ring.

Can you clean an AGA?

A two oven AGA is £143 and it has to be stone cold, so it goes off the night before and the booking is made a day ahead. Catalytic and pyrolytic liners on ordinary ovens are hand work only and never go in the tank.
